The Permaculture Food Challenge

The ultimate aim of Permaculture is to design and create sustainable and regenerative systems that harmonize with natural ecosystems while meeting human needs. At its core, permaculture seeks to design living environments that are resilient, sustainable, and beneficial to both people and the planet.

One of the basic needs of humans is food. As humans today we take our food for granted, as we have been made to believe that there will always be an endless supply in the supermarket. What we fail to realise is, what if this supermarket system collapses. Where will we get our food from then?

In a Namibian context, most of our staple food is imported from our Neighbour, South Africa. Somewhere above 70% of our fresh produce needs to be transported long distances, increasing our own carbon footprints just by what we eat. As such food prices in the country are high in comparison, and most people in the country can not afford a decent meal every day.

One of our goals for our property in the Namib desert, is to be an example for the Namibian people, that we can produce our own food and live off the land. We are still far from reaching that goal, but we need to start putting our “money where our mouth is”, literally.

For 2025 we aspire to eat solely from our property and surrounds for three day of the week by the end of 2025, promoting the local economy in our area.

Follow us along as we strive to meet this goal.
