Aid that doesn’t Help

Corruption is everywhere in the world of Big Charity. When you think about it, it’s a bit unfair to give control over millions (sometimes billions) of dollars to one or two individuals and expect them not to take advantage of the situation. ClickForCharity and DirectSponsor aim to take away the possibility of corruption and waste by making sure projects never get so big. Your clicks income (or your sponsorships) go directly 100% to a recipient.

Joel Salatin writes on his blog about his two experiences with international aid that focused on farming. Both are surprising in how beneficial they sound to the public (feeding people in Africa, teaching farmers how to grow stuff in Belarus), but in reality they enrich large corporations while making the countries that they’re supposed to help poorer. It turns out that what’s supposed to be charitable aid is often just a subsidy to the large corporations that lobby the right departments to get the money that’s supposed to help the people in these countries.

  1. The reality is sad. And it’s just weird how people are brainwashed, and believe they are doing good, but don’t know where their money is actually going to. As Africans we have seen how the money, or at least that that has made it to Africa, gets spent on big cars and fancy promotions etc. in country, and the remaining bits and pieces make it to the people it was intended for.

Thank you for working on this platform as we believe it can really make a difference!
