Solar Energy

Status: Proposed.

I’m skeptical of the 600 million but the question is a valid one!]

Project to provide solar panels and storage for communities. A work in progress. We can discuss and make this page of info.

  • What are the problems that solar power will solve?
  • How will the projects be organized (e.g., one household with a single set-up or a community group, etc.)?
  • How will it all be verified?

Source of Idea: Both Kelvin in Ghana and Mohammed in Sudan have problems with intermittent power supply. They could set up a small solar power supply on the roof with a battery that would provide electricity to fill in the gaps. This would only cost around 300 euros. Once they have done their own, they could go on to provide similar for others in their neighborhood, paid for by sponsorships and fundraisers, which would supply more people with reliable electricity and also provide them with an income for providing the installation service.

This could then provide a model for other areas to do the same. Video of the installation process and informal “interviews” with the recipients would provide evidence of the reality of the project and publicity to help us promote the projects on social media, thus enabling more of them to happen.

A simple accounting (reporting) system would provide further scam protection.
